Garth Black (BS '00, MBA '08)
Vice President, Colleges - BYU Alumni Association
Garth currently resides in Kaysville, Utah, with his wife, Andrea Sheffield (B.A. Humanities, ’98), and their six children: Abigail, Elizabeth, Samuel, Bennett, Amelia, and Owen. The Black family loves adventures – whether it is destinations requiring plane flights, long-distance car rides, or simply camping in the backyard. A favorite family pastime is watching BYUtv: especially BYU football, basketball, and Studio C.
After graduating from BYU in 2000, Garth accepted a position with a global engineering firm, National Instruments, in Austin, Texas. In 2002, Garth and Andrea ventured to London (where they were also married in 1999) to fulfill a 6-month assignment in applications engineering and international marketing. In 2004, they relocated to Kaysville with National Instruments where Garth has worked as a field engineer, enterprise account manager, and most recently as a regional manager for the western United States and Canada responsible for coaching and training a team of field engineers and account managers.
Garth holds degrees from BYU in Chemical Engineering (B.S., 2000) and Business Administration (MBA, 2008). An engineer at heart, Garth loves diagnosing complex “problems” and working with others to derive creative solutions. He also enjoys coaching youth soccer, long distance running, and fly fishing.
