Sheri L. Dew, 2005 Alumni Achievement Award winner, College of Family, Home, and Social Sciences

As president and CEO of the Deseret book Company, Sheri L. Dew (BA ’77, MA ’77) oversees the operation of the largest book publisher of Latter-day Saint works. Also respected as a writer/editor she has written two biographies of the faith’s presidents: Gordon B. Hinckley and Ezra Taft Benson. Among her other books is the inspiration tome, No Doubt About It.

She has been a Relief Society general board member (1997-2002), and after a 1999 trip to Ghana, Dew spearheaded a humanitarian program to send children’s books to underprivileged areas of the world. In July 2005, the first shipment of 6,500 books was sent to Ghana and Fiji. Additional service includes an appointment to the Commission on the Status of Women.

Dew is a passionate defender of the family, and often advocates its preservation. Among her addresses was Defenders of the Faith, which she gave at an interfaith conference in Washington, D.C., where she said,  “Before this era is over, every living human being will have chosen. Every living human being will have lined up in support of the family or against it. Every living human being will have either opposed the onslaught against the family or supported it, for if he tries to make no choice that in itself will be a choice. If we do not act in behalf of the family, that is itself an act of opposition to the family.”
