BYU License Plates

Rep the Y on your ride.

Show your BYU pride (and help out a current BYU student) with the exclusive stretch Y license plate - available at any local Utah DMV. Stretch Y license plates are available for any vehicle owner registering a vehicle in Utah.

The first year you order a Y plate, you will be asked to make a $35 tax-deductible contribution and a one-time $20.50 specialty plate fee. Through this donation, you not only repping the Y, but you're also helping deserving students receive needed financial aid.

How to Get Your BYU License Plates

  • Go to your local DMV, complete the required forms and pay your annual $35 donation and a $17 one-time specialty plate fee. The DMV will then mail you your new BYU plates when ready.

  • Go to dmv.utah.gov/plates/byu and follow the instructions.

    There is a required $35 donation and a $20.50 one-time specialty plate fee. There is also a $4 mailing fee.

  • Fill out form TC-817. In section 3 choose the Utah Special Group Plate option and fill
    in the section with Brigham Young University Collegiate Plates. Leave the section asking for your top three choices blank if you are not customizing your plate characters. Finish this form and mail it to the address at the top of the form along with your payment via check. The state will mail plates and state tags to your home address and forward your donation to BYU. There is a required $35 donation and a $17 one-time specialty plate fee. If you choose to have your plates mailed there is also a $4 mailing fee.
