Why Exercise? Dr. Philip E. Allsen, author of Fitness for Life and professor for BYU's Dept. of Exercise Sciences, recommends regular physical activity and proper nutrition. He states these activities reduce the risk of early death, coronary heart disease, stroke, high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, colon and breast cancer and depression. It can improve thinking ability and the ability to engage in activities needed for daily living. The proper amount of physical activity improves cardio-respiratory and muscular fitness as well as bone health, and contributes to favorable body composition.
