In the year following September 11, 2001, professional graduate
school applications spiked as people sought new professional options.
Kris Tina Carltston, J.D., MBA, says she expects today's crazy
financial market worldwide will likely again spark another increase in
applications.
"When people's jobs are downsized or
they have positions with limited growth, it's logical to think of
graduate programs," she says. In an effort to help potential graduate
students, She and others in the advisement center offer free use of
resources to students and alumni interested in law and the medical
field.
"Among other help, we can assist them with
personal statements and resumes, explore professional schools with
them, and help them with their applications," she says. "We also help
them identify what is unique about them and why they should be
considered for admission." The Center does this through individual
advising, classes, workshops, conferences, fairs, and a variety of
other activities.
The office can also arrange for
potential graduate students to shadow a professional for a day and get
a sense of what could be involved in the profession.
The
Preprofessional Advisement Center is located in 3328 of the Wilkinson
Student Center with weekday hours from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Carlston's
telephone number is (801) 422-0398.
