Jane Clayson Johnson: Emmy Winner, Full-Time Mom

Although Jane Clayson Johnson (BA ’90) earned national acclaim and a high profile as a television broadcaster, she found the call of wife and mother more compelling and believes her work is found at home.

LaVell Edwards: BYU Football

USA Today once called legendary BYU football coach LaVell Edwards a “national coaching treasure,” and BYU agreed, renamed Cougar Stadium to LaVell Edwards Stadium in his honor. A member of the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame, Edwards raked up 257 career victories and ranks as one of the most successful college football coaches of all time.   

BYU Alumnus Wins Grammy Award for Opera Recording

Thomas Glenn can add Grammy Award winner to his credits. He and his colleagues received the best opera recording award for Doctor Atomic, a contemporary award about the controversial making of the atomic bomb during World War II.

James Taft Fredette: Jimmer Me

Professional basketball James Taft “Jimmer” Fredette (’11) gained national fame during his BYU collegiate career, and during the 2011 season, the joined Jimmer mania. He won every major national player of the year awarde, include the Wooden Award, Naismith Award, Adolph Rupp Trophy and Oscar Robertson Trophy.

No surprise here: Jimmer Fredette and the 2011 men’s basketball team handily claimed top honors in the BYU Today poll for the top 11 BYU news stories of 2011. Vocal Point came in at a clear second place for its performance on The Sing Off.
