Parents Guide
Things to do in November-
- As the holidays approach, your student will be faced with tighter and tighter time constraints. This may be a good time to remind your student maintain a good balance in their lives; in addition to studying it is extremely important that they keep a healthy diet, get plenty of sleep and exercise, and make time for some relaxation.
- In the case of illness, have your student visit the Student Health Center (801-422-2771), an up-to-date, modern facility that can take care of most their health needs.
- Student have tendency to get a little distracted this time of year. Not only are they getting tired of studying, they are also easily influenced by friends or roommates who want to hit the slopes at the first sign of snow or who want to start their Christmas shopping early. Encourage your student to "hang in there." Finals are just around the corner.
- The university has given students the Wednesday before Thanksgiving off to encourage your student to get a good night's rest before traveling home for the long Thanksgiving Day weekend. If your student is planning to travel this weekend, encourage your student to take advantage of this extra day by getting a good night's rest before "hitting the road," and be sure to remind your student to wear a seatbelt.
- If your student is experiencing academic difficulty in any of their classes, they are running out of time to get help. Encourage your student now to meet with an advisor in their College Advisement Support Office, or visit with their professor. There are resources to help your student, but they need to take the initiative.
- Students will soon be making arrangements to travel home during the Christmas break. Make sure your student is aware of their final exam schedule before they book that flight home. Instructors are not allowed to give final exams early (your student can find their final exam schedule on the registration page in AIM).
