Years of service made Ilene Jensen Dibble (BS ’61), director of Church Public Affairs for the Denver area, an obvious candidate for the Colorado Spirit-Legacy Award, but for her, receiving the award was a complete surprise.  Dibble was honored by the Governor and Lt. Governor at the annual Governor’s service awards ceremony for her service to the community and the State of Colorado.

Dibble has played an active part in the community and has been involved for eight years with Colorado Cares Days, a program to commemorate Colorado statehood by having citizens become involved in community service projects. 

In 2006 Dibble and more than 4,000 volunteers contributed to Colorado Cares Day, building homes for Habitat for Humanity, assembling care kits for homeless shelters and living centers, and gathering food for the needy among other services.

Many wonderful things were said about Dibble when she received the award including her service on the Governor’s Commission for Community Service, her involvement for the past eight years with Colorado Cares Day, and her efforts to strengthen the family within her community.
