Former BYU basketball player and now member of the USA Women’s Rugby Sevens team, Rovetti helped her team win the Bronze Medal at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
On July 30, 2024, history was made as Stephanie Rovetti and her incredible teammates on the USA Women’s Rugby Sevens team clinched the bronze medal in a heart-pounding final against Australia! This historic win marks the first-ever Olympic medal for the U.S. Women's rugby team. In a last-second triumph, Rovetti and her squad transformed hours of hard work into a well-earned victory.
Hailing from Reno, Nevada, Rovetti’s athletic journey is truly inspiring. Playing on the basketball team at BYU from 2010-14, she played when the BYU team made the Sweet 16 round of the NCAA Division I Tournament. After transferring and finishing her basketball career at Fresno State, Rovetti fell into a coaching role but missed the feeling of competing. Her sister, Morgan, who played on the BYU Women's Rugby team, encouraged Rovetti to try rugby. This ignited Rovetti's passion for rugby.
Rovetti’s basketball prowess seamlessly transitioned into the world of rugby. Despite tackling entirely new challenges, her competitive spirit and teamwork mentality, cultivated during her BYU days, proved to be invaluable assets. As Rovetti herself puts it, "learning how to be a competitor, learning how to be a team, learning to have a winning culture—Those things went seamlessly in learning how to train for the national team."
With unwavering support from her teammates, Rovetti quickly mastered the intricacies of the game and became an integral part of the Olympic squad. This extraordinary achievement is a testament to Rovetti's talent, resilience, and hard work.
