Michael A. Johanson
Executive Director, BYU Alumni Association Board
Michael Johanson is a strategic communications professional with experience in both higher education and corporate environments. Prior to joining Brigham Young University in 2016, he served as the managing director of communications and advancement for BYU–Hawaii in Laie, Hawaii, with responsibility over marketing, branding, creative services, broadcasting, events, outreach and public relations.
Before this ‘overseas’ tenure in Hawaii, Michael was the communications manager for Melaleuca, a large, multinational company that manufactures and distributes a broad product line focused on wellness. He has also worked for Neways International and the BYU Marriott School of Business.
Michael is a graduate of BYU’s nationally recognized public relations program. He has taught courses on strategic communications at the undergraduate level and has served on a variety of committees and boards in the communities where he’s lived. A native of Prosser, Washington, Michael has a strong affinity for open roads and rolling fields, and is finding a new love of the majestic mountains in Utah.
In any rare unstructured time, you’ll likely find him reading books or listening to podcasts by Dave Ramsey. He and his wife Katrina live in Orem, Utah, and have four daughters – and are currently accepting advice (and donations) for how to manage four weddings.
